I just finished The Devil's Punchbowl by Greg Iles, who is one of my favorite authors. I think I've read all of his books. I listened to the audio unabridged version and it was almost 24 hours long. The story takes place in Natchez, Mississippi, and it's all about murder, violence, and a battle with two psychopaths who are profoundly evil and immoral. I read a review by Patrick Anderson of the Washington Post and he wrote, "It's hard to think many women could read it with pleasure; and, even for us insensitive males, a strong stomach is useful." Nevertheless, I found it exciting!
what about the dog fighting scenes? Are they incredibly graphic? I've read so many reviews stating that its hard to stomach that I'm leary of this one though I enjoy his writing.
The descriptions of the dog fights are minimal. As I was listening to the book, I fast forwarded it a bit so I didn't have to listen to that part. It wasn't very much though. I usually won't read or listen to anything bad happening to animals or children, but otherwise the book was very engrossing. Just skip over those parts.
