Getting Organized

I recently purchased the Fujitsu ScanSnap S300M scanner to help me get rid of all the paper stuffed into my file cabinet. It's almost impossible to open the drawers anymore. I was listening to Mac Power Users Podcast on June 3rd about going paperless and I was inspired to get a scanner to scan all of the receipts, documents, tax returns, business cards, etc. that are currently stuffed in my cabinet.

The ScanSnap, pictured above, came today and I've just set it up. The scanner is so simple to use. After scanning a document, it creates a pdf file in Adobe Acrobat. It automatically detects the paper size, and whether the paper is two-sided or in color. After scanning, you simply save it into a folder of your choice and you can use the software, Yep to help you retrieve, search and organize your files. I'm looking forward to cleaning out my file cabinet and saving the documents in my computer. I anticipate a week-end of mad scanning.

So how much was this little miracle? Goodness knows that I can use one! Is it okay to only have photocopies of receipts. This may be something I need to look into!!
The question about having photocopies came up on the podcast that I listened to, and the answer given was that they were generally excepted. Also, old register receipts will fade to white after a few months because of the type of paper that's used. I had this experience when I wanted to check the warranty on my television. The cost is $253. There is a larger more expensive one, but this one is tiny and doesn't take up much room on the desk. It is much quicker than the typical photo-scanner, too.
